Here are a few pictures from this year's Ohana Hoopfest. The coaches (namely Gib Arnold), didn't do as much as before--it was more straightforward introductions of staff, coaches, etc. The Beemanator did a little (and I mean little) rap/dance thing to start the girls off--who each did a little two, three line rap to introduce themselves.
Beeman dancing her way off the "stage."
Shawna Lei's BABY in the carrier. When the girls came out, they each threw a T-shirt into the stands. Shawna-Lei gave hers to her daughter. Kalei Adolpho gave hers to Robyn Ah Mow-Santos (presumably for her kid).
The men's team did a short Gangnam Style routine...lol...
The next 5 shots were taken in about a 1 second span during the Slam Dunk contest. This is Garrett Jefferson going over a kid recruited from the stands...
The Wahine look much bigger and more physical than they have. Hopefully, they won't be playing the DTD pussy style basketball this year. Haydel looks like she's trimmed down a bit or gotten more muscular maybe. They got that transfer (Jr?) gal Kailiawa from the Big Island who looks pretty good. I'd also like to see what Karaitiana can do. They also have a transfer G/F gal who I wasn't aware of at all until tonight. She's originally from Japan but according to the roster, is a Jr xfr from Diablo Valley College--her name is Diane Moore, and I don't anything about her...
The men look like they should be measurably. Stanhardinger is intense (I don't think he ever takes a play off in practice or games). Rozitis looks more coordinated than he did last year. Shamburger looks good (better he's on our team than killing us in a SJSU uniform (even though we don't have to worry about them anymore). Manroop Clair has a weird shot, but can hit from long range...hope he pans out. That Valdez guy looked pretty good too in the few minutes we got to watch them play. There's something about Fotu I like too--maybe it's just the hair...
Looking forward to hoops starting. I think both teams have potential (hope springs eternal) to at least be competent. What I'm looking for in the Wahine is to at least be competitive and not be embarrassed every time they take the court. I hope Beeman has them playing a little more rough, tough basketball instead of Brownie troop picnics--save the milk and cookies.
I hope the Gibster has finally gotten some athletes who can compete...we'll see what happens, otherwise, I think his job might be in jeopardy.
edited for typos (of which there were many...lol)
