Yesterday had a conversation with a CS rep @ Oceanic. Called into complain about an increase in my monthly billing. Went up almost $10 from the previous month. I was told that a notice was placed on my bill from last month alerting me that the rate was going up but even so, it was still discounted. About a year ago, I switched from Roadrunner to HTel for my internet and without notice, OTW put me on a new yearly plan. The rep told me that me that if I added internet back into my plan they can make adjustments. I replied that all I'm complaining about was having to pay the new rate without enough notice. She offered me Free HD for 24 months @ $6.95/month instead of giving me back my rate. After all the grumbling and going back to her supervisor, they decided to extend my original plan for another 12 months and credit me back the overpayment on my next billing. The rep still had to make a point about the Free HD. Even though I got this rate from OTW, I am still seriously thinking of switching to DISH. Compared to what I am paying OTW, I can save up to $800.00 per year in the first year and get better upgrades than what I have now.

Is Dish better? What about Direct TV? A lot of my friends now have Direct TV and are loving all the football coverage that they are now getting.
I just don't like to deal with Oceanic, period. When we moved we had not so good service from them and their workers that came to our house could use a lesson in customer service too.

I think Direct TV is fine but they don't offer this Korea Channel that I watch for free. I spoke to Dish and they put together a package for me that addresses the 4 TVs in my house. All will have HD and DVR capabilities for about $61.00 per month for a two year commitment. The 2nd year the monthly goes up to $91/month. My Oceanic bill for just one DVR and HD is now about $120 per month.

Oceanic was going to scam me with yet ANOTHER raise in my service. I am currently paying 125 bucks for one HD package and basic RoadRunner. I forgot what they wanted to raise it to, since I called to tell them that I will be canceling my cable after the PPV is done. The idea was to get the box back when the season starts again but I would have to pay installation fees, and the local rep said that I wouldn't get the discounted renewal on the PPV that I've had since the beginning (even though a national rep said that I could). They also charged me 3 BUCKS JUST TO ORDER THEIR DAMNED PPV SERVICE. I'm just about over Oceanic altogether, and since Norm isn't about trying to put together a team that's even remotely exciting or competitive, I might just cancel permanently and stick with Direct TV.

To me I figure people that have been with Oceanic for years do not realize that Oceanic periodically raises the rates. But if you make noise they do relent. Who knows how many people don't react to these changes.

How about Hawaiian Tel TV? Has anyone tried that? A rep came by last night and tried to get me to sign up.

Does HTel have OC Sports?
Do any of the satellites?
I really want to ditch OTW tv but I'd probably keep their crappy internet.

Okay...while I agree with some of the gripes about OTW, I haven't experienced the same hassles many seem to have problems with. I am not fond of the recent rate increase. It's getting to the point where I may have to jump ship. I prefer the RR HSinet over other service providers however... As for customer service...I have only ever had one poor experience with a customer service rep--and I reported it. Generally, the CS people I have dealt with have been friendly, polite and very helpful. When I have had problems, like when I moved house and had to change the existing service over to my name...there were some botched aspects, but a call to OTW cleared it up pretty quickly and cleanly--and I was compensated for the inconvenience (that was not my fault). I guess maybe I'm the exception to the rule...

I agree with the RR part. I've had RR from it's introduction, and they've made huge strides! In the beginning they didn't have the bandwidth to meet the demand, but now they are solid and I have had no problems.

Sometimes my internet is slow. Was thinking about switching just the internet to Hawaiian Tel. I can get the equivalent to the RR turbo for about $30 less per month than I am paying now and about $50 if I got RR turbo. Got to talk to a friend who had Hawaiian Tel but switched back to Oceanic before I switch.

Got the Hawaiian Tel internet service and got it as a bundle deal with my land line for basically the same price as just my land line. Had been thinking of getting rid of the line but since they offered me a lifetime rate..I made the switch. I have a wired modem since my main desktop computer does not have wireless. They do offer a free wireless modem if you want.

My friend had a lot of problems with his. He is going to switch back. I guess I'll stay with RR.

My friend had a lot of problems with his. He is going to switch back. I guess I'll stay with RR. It has been my experience (augmented by friends who have had HawnTel svc) that Oceanic's RR service is more reliable and consistently faster than HITel's. Unless you are within a few hundred yards of one of their switching stations. the speed really drops off dramatically (even if you are paying for faster svc).
